Resurrectional Tones

THE RESURRECTIONAL TROPARIA

First Tone

Troparion:

Though the stone was sealed by the Jews and soldiers guarded Your most pure body, You arose, O Savior, on the third day, and gave life to the world. And so the heavenly powers cried out to You, O Giver of Life: Glory to Your resurrection, O Christ! Glory to your Kingdom! Glory to Your saving plan, O only Lover of Mankind!

Kontakion:

You arose in glory from the tomb and with Yourself You raised the world. All humanity acclaims You as God, and death has vanished. Adam exults, O Master, and Eve, redeemed now from bondage, cries out for joy: “You are the One, O Christ, Who offer resurrection to all.”

Theotokion:

When Gabriel uttered to you, O Virgin, his ‘Rejoice!’ - at that sound the Master of all became flesh in you, the holy ark. As the just David said, you have become wider than the heavens carrying your Creator. Glory to Him Who dwelt in you! Glory to Him Who came forth from you! Glory to Him Who freed us through birth to you!

Prokimenon:

Let Your mercy, O Lord, be upon us, as we have hoped in You.

Verse:

Rejoice in the Lord, O you just; praise befits the righteous. (Ps. 33:22,1)

Alleluia:

God gives me vindication, and has subdued peoples under me.

Second Tone

When You went down to death, O Life Immortal, You struck Hades dead with the blazing light of Your divinity. When You raised the dead from the nether world, all the powers of heaven cried out: “O Giver of Life, Christ our God, glory be to you!”

Kontakion:

You rose from the tomb, O almighty Savior; and Hades, seeing this wonder, was stricken with fear; and the dead arose. Creation saw and rejoices with You, and Adam exults. And the world, my Savior, sings Your praises for ever.

Theotokion:

The tomb and death could not hold the Mother of God, unceasing in her intercession and an unfailing hope of patronage, for as the Mother of Life she was transferred to life by Him Who had dwelt in her ever-virgin womb.

Prokimenon:

The Lord is my strength and my song of praise, and He has become my salvation.

Verse:

The Lord has indeed chastised me, but He has not delivered me to death. (Ps 118:14,18)

Alleluia:

The Lord will hear you in the day of tribulation; the name of the God of Jacob will shield you.

Kontakion:

You rose from the tomb, O compassionate Lord, and led us out from the gates of death. Today Adam exults and Eve rejoices, and the prophets together with the patriarchs unceasingly acclaim the divine might of Your power.

Theotokion:

Today the Virgin stands before us in the church, and together with the choirs of saints invisibly prays to God for us. Angels are worshiping with hierarchs; apostles exult with prophets, for the Mother of God prays in our behalf to the eternal God.

Prokimenon:

Sing to our God, sing; sing to our King, sing.

Verse:

Clap your hands, all you nations; shout unto God with the voice of joy. (Ps. 47:7,2)

Alleluia:

In You, O Lord, have I hoped that I may not be put to shame for ever.

Be a protector unto me, O God, and a house of refuge to save me. (Ps. 31:2,3) Alleluia. (3)

Communion Verse:

Praise the Lord from the heavens; praise Him in the highest. (Ps. 148:1) Alleluia. (3)

Fourth Tone

Troparion:

When the disciples of the Lord learned from the angel the glorious news of the resurrection and cast off the ancestral condemnation, they proudly told the apostles: “Death has been plundered! Christ our God is risen, granting to the world great mercy.”

Kontakion:

My Savior and Deliverer from the grave as God has raised out of bondage the children of earth and shattered the gates of Hades; and as Master, He rose on the third day.

Theotokion:

By your birth, O immaculate one, Joachim and Anna were freed from the reproach of childlessness, and Adam and Eve from the corruption of death. And your people, redeemed from the fuilt of their sins, celebrate as they cry out to you: “The barren one gives birth to the Mother of God and nourisher of our Life.”

Prokimenon:

How great are Your works, O Lord; You have made all things in wisdom.

Verse:

Bless the Lord, O my soul: O Lord my God, You are exceedingly great. (Ps. 104:24,1)

Alleluia:

Poise yourself and advance in triumph and reign in the cause of truth, and meekness, and justice.

You have loved justice and hated iniquity. (Ps. 45:5,8) Alleluia. (3)

Communion Verse:

Praise the Lord from the heavens; praise Him in the highest. (Ps. 148:1) Alleluia. (3)

Fifth Tone

Troparion:

Let us the faithful acclaim and worship the Word, co-eternal with the Father and the Spirit, and born of the Virgin for our salvation. For He willed to be lifted up on the cross in the flesh, to suffer death and to raise the dead by His glorious resurrection.

Kontakion:

Yes, my Savior, descended to Hades, and as the Almighty, You shattered its gates. With Yourself You, as the Creator, raised the dead and shattered the sting of death, and delivered Adam from the curse, O Lover of Mankind. And so we cry out: “Save us, O Lord.”

Theotokion:

Rejoice, O impassable door of the Lord! Rejoice, O rampart and protection of those who have recourse to you! Rejoice, O tranquil haven and Virgin, who gave birth in the flesh to your Maker and God! Fail not to intercede for those who sing and worship the Child you bore.

Prokimenon:

You, O Lord, will guard us and will keep us from this generation, and for ever.

Your mercies, O Lord, I will sing for ever; from generation to generation I will announce Your truth with my mouth.

For You have said: Mercy shall be built up for ever; in the heavens Your truth shall be prepared. (Ps. 89:2,2) Alleluia. (3)

Communion Verse:

Praise the Lord from the heavens; priase Him in the highest. (Ps. 148:1) Alleluia. (3)

Sixth Tone

Troparion:

Angelic poswers were upon Your tomb and the guards became like dead men; Mary stood before Your tomb seeking Your most pure body. You captured Hades without being overcome by it. You met the Virgin and granted life. O Lord, risen from the dead, glory be to You!

Kontakon:

With His life-giving hand Christ our God, the Giver of life, raised all the dead from the murky abyss and bestowed resurrection upon humanity. He is for all the Savior, the resurrection and the life, and the God of all.

Theotokion:

Undaunted patroness of Christians, O steadfast intermediary with the Creator, turn not away from the suppliant voices of sinners, but in your kindness come to help us who cry out to you in faith. Seventh Tone

Troparion:

By Your cross You destroyed death; You opened Paradise to the thief; You changed the lamentation of the myrrh-bearers to joy, and changed the apostles to proclaim that You are risen, O Christ our God, offering great mercy to the world.

Kontakion:

No longer shall the dominion of death be able to hold humanity, for Christ went down shattering and destroying its powers. Hades is bound. the prophets exult with one voice. The Savior has come for those with faith, saying: “Come forth, O faithful, to the resurrection!”

Theotokion:

O all-priased treasury of our resurrection, we hope in you, bring us up from the pit and depth of sins, for you have saved those subject to sin by giving birth to our Salvation, O Virgin before childbirth, and Virgin in childbirth, and still a Virgin after the childbirth.

You came down from on high, O Merciful One, and accepted three days of burial to free us from our sufferings. O Lord, our life and our resurrection, glory be to You.

When You rose from the tomb, You also raised the dead and resurrected Adam. Eve exults in Your resurrection, and the ends of the world celebrate Your rising from the dead, O most merciful One.

To you, O Mother of God, the invincible leader, we, your servants, ascribe these victory hymns in thanksgiving for our deliverance from evil. With your invincible power free us from all dangers that we may cry out to you: “Hail, O Bride, and pure Virgin!”
